1997
  • Established Shinto Herberts Automotive Systems Co., Ltd., a 50/50 joint venture in coatings for automobiles between Herberts (Germany) and SHINTO PAINT CO., Ltd.
  • Started to market the lead-free cathodic electro-deposition coatings.
1998
  • Introduced the water-borne base coat/clear coat/ primer surfacer technology of Herberts, Germany
1999
  • DuPont, US took over Herberts. Herberts then changed its name to DuPont Performance Coatings.
2000
  • Adopted water-borne base coats and clear coats in domestic automobiles lines.
2002
  • Adopted water-borne base coats and clear coats for bumpers in the domestic automobiles lines.
2003
  • Registered ISO14001 company-wide certification
2004
  • On the occasion of the take-over of Herberts by DuPont, US, the company name of Shinto Herberts Automotive Systems Co., Ltd. was changed to DuPont Shinto Automotive Systems Co., Ltd.
2005
  • DuPont, US established the Aichi Laboratory in Miyoshi City, Aichi Prefecture.
  • A research base for top coatings for automobiles of DuPont Shinto was set up in this laboratory.
  • Started the marketing of super-high throwing power, lead-free and tin-free type cathodic electro-deposition coatings
2006
  • Acquired all shares of Taiwan Shinto Chemical Co., Ltd., a coating manufacturer in Taiwan, and made it a subsidiary.
  • Acquired 30% shares of SHINTRA, a Malaysian coating manufacturer.
2007
  • Changed the name of Taiwan Shinto Chemical Co., Ltd. to DuPont Shinto Taiwan Co., Ltd.
2008
  • Completed the overseas development of lead-free cathodic electro-deposition coatings.
  • Started to sell new water-borne top coatings to the global market in all 25 lines in Europe, South Africa, Russia, Southeast Asia, North America and Central America.
2013
  • DuPont Performance Coatings was acquired by The Carlyle Group. DuPont Performance Coatings then changed its name to Axalta Coating systems.
  • DuPont Shinto Automotive systems has changed its name to Axalta Shinto Coating Systems, DuPont Shinto Taiwan changed its name to Axalta Shinto Coating Systems Taiwan.
2014
  • Acquired 60% shares of PT. Shinto Paint Indonesia, a coating sales company in Indonesia, and made it a subsidiary.
  • Axalta becomes publicly traded on The New York Stock Exchange.
  • Axalta Shinto Coating Systems Taiwan Co., Ltd. acquired 60% shares of Shinto Paint Trading (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. a coating sales company in China, and made it a subsidiary.
